Description
A delicious and creamy potato gratin made with Yukon Gold potatoes, Gruyère cheese, and caramelized onions.
Ingredients

- 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 3 sprigs fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and caramelize the onions until golden brown (about 15 minutes).
- Grease a baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the onions and half of the cheese.
- Pour half of the cream over the first layer and season with salt, pepper, and thyme.
- Repeat layering with remaining ingredients.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
- For added flavor, try adding garlic or nutmeg.
