Description

A delicious and creamy potato gratin made with Yukon Gold potatoes, Gruyère cheese, and caramelized onions.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and caramelize the onions until golden brown (about 15 minutes).
  3. Grease a baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the onions and half of the cheese.
  4. Pour half of the cream over the first layer and season with salt, pepper, and thyme.
  5. Repeat layering with remaining ingredients.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
  • For added flavor, try adding garlic or nutmeg.
